EP2 - 3D-Structural Model

Goals

In order to comprehend the fluid system and coupling of near surface ground water and deep water in the Thuringian Basin it is of utmost importance to know the current 3D-architecture of the Basin. Beside aquifer geometry, deep rupture zones play an important role because fluids circulate vertically in them. Sub-project 2 mainly designs the 3D-structural model of the Thuringian Basin and investigates construction and development of these rupture zones. Kinematic reconstruction of rupture zones is used to limit the number of structural geometries. This brand new technique focusses on processes in models. Rupture zones in suitable outcrops are analyzed with the latest surveying techniques to gain fracture porosity data. These data will feed numerical models.
