NWG1 - Near Surface Geophysics

Goals

The sub-project 'Near Surface Geophysics' is a junior research group to develop and optimize geophysical and geological methods and tools. Airborne, ground based and bore hole data of various scales are analyzed. Lithological differences are captured in order to map shift sequences, to recognize mineralizations, to identify discrete fault-zones as well as small tectonical rock texture. The correlation of rock physical parameters and various geophysical results (magnetic, seismic attenuation, etc) is a focus in NWG1.

For this project we use the most sensitive magnetic field sensor system worldwide. Developed by a joint venture of the Institute of Photonic Technology and Supracon AG, Jena, we can use a pool of highly sensitive SQUID systems for geomagnetic exploration.
