INFLUINS - Introduction


INFLUINS is a strategic research consortium bringing together universities, federal research centres, industry partners, and local and national government bodies. INFLUINS will investigate the coupled dynamics of near surface and deep flow patterns of fluids and transported materials and component substances in the Thuringian Basin. Geology, hydrogeology, mineralogy, geophysics, basin analysis, remote sensing and meteorology are linked by the new research focus. INFLUINS will play a  lead role in research and development across these fields of geoscience. INFLUINS benefits from strong networking amongst partners across the region.  This research joint venture adds value by integrating  results and expertise across all sub-projects, helping us to address the many technical challenges posed such as seismic acquisition, drilling, and use of a wide range of advanced, and even experimental geophysical monitoring techniques - the end result will be more than just the sum of its parts.  During the 5-year project the existing network of partners will become larger and increasingly international.

Focal points will be scientifically challenging and socially highly relevant topics:  these include the use of near-surface and deep geothermal energy, CCS, safe storage of compressed-air and natural gas as well as reliable water supply under conditions of climate change.
